Joy Division was an English Punk band that formed in 1976. They were one of the first true Post Punk bands, although they had a more straight ahead Punk sound on their 1978 EP.

Their legendary debut, Unknown Pleasures (1979) has become widely known as a legendary album and it's cover art is just as legendary. Their career was short lived, but they still have a lasting fanbase that continues today.

They formed when Peter Hook and Bernard Sumner attended a Sex Pistols show, and they soon developed a sound that was very unique for a Punk band of the time.

Ian Curtis (the singer) has become a Punk icon. Sadly, on May 18th, 1980, Ian Curtis died. His death only made him even more legendary. The band quickly broke up after Ian Curtis' Death, but later reformed as New Order, which still exists today.
